CURIOUS & COURAGEOUS
Read my mission statement for the shop (why I am doing this) here.
Now a proud member of Namta – the International Art Materials Association
Hi everyone, I'm Megan and I've been an active artist in Ypsilanti, MI for nearly two decades.
I remember when Art Attack closed ten years ago, and, like many of you, I felt sure it'd be replaced. Turns out it wasn't. Turns out that perhaps, after all, it's MY turn to step up for this community I love.
My dream has been to open a new art supply storefront in the heart of Ypsilanti that can service ALL of our creatives - both makers of the art and the supplies themselves. I want to elevate marginalized creatives/entrepreneurs - to that end, I’ve been stocking dozens of independent vendors that I know you'll LOVE.
I’ve secured a wonderful space that acts as both a traditional shop full of a wide-range of hand-picked and vetted art supplies AND a space for future classes, events, and the sky's nearly the limit! The back room has recently been transformed into:
A space where I can hand-make the button sketchbooks, letter crayons, and more, and,
The location of a re-sale table for second-hand creative supplies from my studio.
I have made so many connections within our creative business community which are making this truly successful and a staple of the downtown #ypsireal scene. I sincerely hope you'll join me! Ypsi deserves nice things.
I little more about me:
I'm an alum of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (MA, Medical & Biological Illustration).
Locally, I'm an alum of EMU (BS) and Wayne State (Anatomy, PhD).
I’ve been a practicing medical illustrator since 2002.
I’ve had a booth (of my own fine art) at the juried Ann Arbor Art Fair, The Original six times - 2016-2017, and 2021-present (you can always find me on Washington Street!). I’ve also served as one of their kid’s and peer jurors several times.
I’ve taught scientific art workshops at Ann Arbor Public Library and Belleville Library.
In winter 2024, I began teaching “Anatomy for Artists'“ at Wayne State University in Detroit.
I’m an amateur lover of art history and the history and science of color/pigments/all artistic supplies. (This will definitely lead to my own line of watercolors some day!)
I want to share what I know... it's my time to serve.
Yours truly, working in carbon dust, 2015.
