THE BASICS:
WHERE? At the shop in vibrant downtown Ypsi – 42 N. Huron St., Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Classes meet in the new, expanded space next door at 46 N. Huron. We call it the Y.A.S. Classroom (YASroom??).
HOW MUCH IS IT TO TAKE A CLASS? This varies by course and instructor. We strive to offer various price tiers and sliding-scale options to accommodate as many folks’ budgets as we can – from students to seniors and everyone in between.
HOW MANY PEOPLE PER CLASS? Again, it varies by the course. Many courses or workshops work well with about 10 or 12 people max. However, the Classroom can comfortably accommodate about 20 people.
WHAT SKILL LEVELS? Say it with me: It depends on the class! :) We offer a variety of classes for beginners and near-beginners, as well as some courses and workshops designed for intermediate/advanced students.
ANYTHING FOR KIDS? Yes! Please check the class descriptions for the suitable ages for each. For example, many of Lena’s courses are for ages 14+ and some can accommodate younger artists with an enrolled grown-up, too. If your tween or preteen is interested in any of our offerings listed for teens/adults, please reach out to the instructor directly and inquire!
HOW DO I CONTACT AN INSTRUCTOR? The instructor’s contact info (usually email) should be included in the class listing. If not, please email Lena@rhizomeartstudio.com, and xé will reach out to the instructor on your behalf.
NEXT-UP CLASS SPOTLIGHT!
Supported printing hours and printmaking community for artists who have used an etching press before! This Come Out & Print session takes place within a scheduled printmaking course: Intermediate Printmaking. (Press refresher training included.)

$10-$20 sliding scale per day you attend + BYO supplies (many tools provided)
My vision for Come Out & Print (CO&P; “coap” – rhymes with “soap”) is to provide access to tools and an etching press for folks who are not currently taking a printmaking course. Is that you? (FYI, the etching press can also efficiently print linocut and other relief blocks.) See below for more details!

More Info about CO&P
In addition to material resources, I aim for CO&P to nurture the special feeling of community and camaraderie which thrives in a printmaking studio where multiple folks with different interests, methods, and experience levels are all sharing the space and interacting together.
When CO&P is scheduled during printmaking course times, I’ll be primarily focused on course participants, but I’ll be available to answer technical questions, troubleshoot issues, or to help with the press. You’ll certainly be welcome to engage with folks taking the course, chat, discuss your work, etc.
I am looking for folks to commit to attending at least half of all scheduled CO&P dates within a given course, and to pay a 35% deposit (at registration) of the total amount they intend to pay on the sliding scale. They would then pay the balance on the first day they attend.
If you commit to four or five sessions, but you end up attending more often – that’s great! And there’s no need to commit to specific dates – just that you’ll attend at least half of the dates for the course. Come when you can!
